We’re all looking forward to the spring and warmer weather, which brings with it the sevens season. As it’s been 3 years since the last 7s games in 2019, we’d strongly recommend that if you plan to referee at any tournaments this season, you re-acquaint yourselves with the relevant law variations. A version of the 7s law variations can be downloaded from our Useful Documents page or viewed on the World Rugby website here. Please bear in mind that local organisers have discretion to vary things like playing time and pitch size (particularly with age grade rugby), so check with them when you attend!
Meeting up in person
After a long lay off for obvious Covid reasons, we are looking to finally get together in person for our meeting in February. As restrictions look like they are beginning to ease, our Training Director Neil Chivers is working with the other members of the board to ensure we can get together as a Society in the safest way possible. Full details will come out in due course; we have a number of ideas of what our subject for the evening is going to be but if there is a particular area of your refereeing that you feel needs polishing up please get in touch by emailing email@example.com and we will look to build it in to the evening.
After a spate of referees turning up to matches that have already been called off for a variety of reasons, and having wasted journeys, another reminder of how the reconfirmation process should work:
Clubs are also being contacted to remind them of their responsibilities to confirm games in good time
