Who’s the Ref (WTR) & Matches

WTR is the online referee appointment booking platform used by the RFU and Referee Societies nationwide. We use this database to process membership requests, pay travel expenses and allocate Match Officials to fixtures.

Setting Your Availability Login and select “Contact Availability from the dropdown menu. Select “(Me)” to shortcut to your name and the month you’re working from as well as “North Mids” in the Organisation section.

This will then bring up your availability calendar. Select the highlighted icon to edit and this will give you the option to tick the dates that you are available. Please note you can specify whether you are available all day or in the morning/afternoon/evening. Our appointments team will allocate games to suit your availability based on this calendar

Appointments Process

Once you have updated your availability calendar on WTR, our appointments team will allocate suitable fixtures to you. When you’ve received an email confirmation, please follow the link to accept/decline the appointment. The host club should contact you directly to confirm that the fixture is going ahead, if you don’t hear anything by a couple of days before your game, please contact the appropriate member of the appointments team below. If your game is cancelled, TBC will reappoint you to another fixture on the same day.

Mileage / Expenses

Your mileage expenses are paid at £0.45 per mile, this is automatically calculated on WTR and paid twice per season. You will get an email in advance prompting you to check your claims are correct before submitting them.

September to November appointments – paid in December.

December to April appointments – paid in May.

If you need to submit claims outside these dates please notify Ian – finance@northmidsrefs.co.uk.

Please ensure Ian has your correct date bank details, these can be sent using the ‘finance’ email above.

Referee Protocols and Cancelled Matches

Clubs have been advised that they should confirm matches with the referee at least 48 hours beforehand. Confirmation could be a phone call, an email or text message. You should reply to texts/emails to confirm receipt. If the club does not confirm within 48 hours of kick off, please contact the society appointing officer responsible for the appointment for further guidance. Don’t travel to a club if you haven’t had confirmation. If a game is cancelled please let the following people know as appropriate:

  • Saturday Fixtures – Vince
  • Sunday Fixtures – Alex
  • Midweek Fixtures – Phil

Contact Details

Please ensure your contact preferences are updated on Who’s the Ref. Clubs will use this information to contact you to confirm a fixture, for example if you prefer a text message please ensure your mobile is on there. To update your profile click on your name in the top left corner of WTR, select ‘My Profile’ and click on the notepad icon.

Appointments Team:

Once your availability is set on Who’s the Ref the appointments team will assign games.
