Jack Jeffery /Weekend games

All referees who are officiating on Saturday 19th and Sunday 20th February should be aware that most clubs in the region will be holding a minute’s applause in memory of Jack before kick-off, and ‘retiring’ their No.11 shirt for the match. Please do your utmost to facilitate this fitting tribute.

Beginners Course for referees

The Society has been working with the RFU to address the current referee shortage, by running ‘Beginners Courses’: these are preliminary training sessions whilst we wait for full ERRA course dates to be confirmed later this year. The course is just three hours long and those who attend will be able to:

  • Referee local and ‘own club’ games and be insured
  • Attend the full ERRA course later this year at no cost
  • Join the Society at no cost
  • Attend Society Training Sessions & join our Webinars

The take up by Clubs and Schools has been excellent and we currently expecting over 90 candidates. If you know someone from your club who may be interested please contact the Society using the contact form or email

There are two new tributes on our Recognition and Honours page, to former Training Officer David Winter and long-standing Society member Geoff Murch.
